April Showers..

...and the rest!!!
Today was an 'end of the world' type day.....howling wind...lashing rain...hail...

then bright sunshine...this is of course because we have a hosepipe ban and can only bathe in 3 inches of water.....however, ever the optimists we have gone all Mediterranean here ...dreaming of sun filled days a gentle breeze of lavender scented air....

...... olive trees and pelargoniums blooming constantly

heres hoping for a calmer day tomorrow.

Happy Hocktide Hungerford!!

Today we dressed the window read for Tutti Day next week in Hungerford.
This is what Wikipedia says about it ....

Hungerford is the only place in the country to have continuously celebrated Hocktide or Tutti Day (the second Tuesday after Easter). Today it marks the end of the town council's financial and administrative year, but in the past it was a more general celebration associated with the town's great patron, John of Gaunt
The Town Crier summons the Commoners of the town to the Hocktide Court held at the town hall, while two florally decorated 'Tutti Men' and the 'Orange Man' visit every house with commoners' rights (almost a hundred properties), accompanied by around six Tutti Girls, drawn from the local school. Originally they collected 'head pennies' to ensure fishing and commoners grazing rights. Today, they largely collect kisses from each lady of the house.

There are certain objects which are associated with the day such as pennies, beer, oranges and flowers...so our window reflects some of those ...the oranges in the vintage planters look great and really bright from outside...and of course flowers are no problem for us!!!

Friday the Thirteenth, you may have thought, not such an auspicious day for a wedding but thirteen as always been a lucky number in our family and the sun shone on our bride to be today..creamy white callas for the brides maids....

...and gorgeous Majestic Red callas for the Bride.....delicious....talking of good enough to eat...

..the first Peonies of the year....the wonderfully blowsy Sarah Bernhardt........
it feels like farewell Spring ...hello Summer......

August Willem

Here is our little chap...now with a name at last!
He is really rocking our world right now...Me (Emma) & Martin cant believe we have made something so perfect.

He is still a little yellow, but we are getting out and about in the sunshine to help solve that!

In between feeds I have been catching up on all the good stuff I haven't been allowed to eat...I cannot tell you how exciting is was to walk into our local deli and pick out my lunch! Eating it was simply divine!

Thank you all for your cards, gifts and kind wishes for August...we have been so touched by everyone's kindness and generosity.

where did that week go!!!

Gosh....as usual Easter has crept up on us and we are flying by the seat of our pants....again!!!!
We have had some of the most staggeringly beautiful flowers in over the last  week.......almost all we ( read Kay ) forgot to photograph!!

Dusky pink helebores that we managed to keep from going floppy ( without the gin...thats another story).
incredible flag iris..we all took some home such is their fleeting beauty...but a few customers were allowed to buy some.....:)

..the most incredible deep burgundy scabious with fly petals of purple........tiny, tiny, mauve dianthus...fit for a  dolls house dinner party table........cornish daffodils in beautiful mixed colours...pretty,petty,pretty....

.......but my favourite.....pots of scented violets.......how can such a tiny flower smell so divine?......
The last two pics are of our current door wreath...suitably springy of course.
We will have lots of loveliness for Easter, flowers and plants so do call in... we also went shopping at the weekend and have some  new vintage garden containers and statues.... we may have chocolate eggs as well....
